Parliamentary Gazetteer of Ireland 1845 |
Spancel-Hill A village noted for its horse-fairs, in the parish of Clooney, barony of Upper Bunratty, Co. Clare, Munster. It stands on the road from Quin to Gort, near its intersection with that from Ennis to Scarriff, 3¾ miles north-north-west of Quin, and 3¾ north-east of Ennis. Fairs are held on June 24, and Aug. 20. Within a mile of it are the seats of Cranagher-house, Castletown-house, Durra-cottage, and Cahareiny-house, ¾ the first the residence of B. Blood, Esq. Area of the village 5 acres.
