9th July-22nd August 2004
“Convergence”, an exhibition of oil paintings by Roxanne Fitzmaurice, opens at the Russell Gallery on the 9th July by Clare Arts Officer Siobhan Mulcahy, and runs until 22nd of August 2004.
This new collection of work originates in a concept of the lrish landscape-encompassing the fleeting feeling of experiencing the wild rural countryside. Fitzmaurice’ work is concerned with the energy of the landscape, “ the constant flux, merging with the calm, the rare, the ephemeral.” She portrays this energy and movement “reflecting nature in oil, light, colour, texture, and hue: the process of painting the art of nature.” These moody abstracted feelings of the Irish land are created in rich layers of textured oils in blues and earth colours with elements of purples and mauves contrasting with undertones of yellow.
Fitzmaurice had a sell-out show in Mrua Gallery, Bellharbour, Co. Clare, in 2001 and since then has been working on this new body of work. Her paintings have been exhibited in Aontas and the RHA annual exhibition. Starting off her creative as a trained fashion designer she spent 4 years in DIT College of Art and Design studying art and then went on to NCAD to graduate with a Degree in Fine Art in 1998. Roxanne Fitzmaurice’ work is in many private and public collections including the Shelbourne Hotel and DIT collections.
The Russell Gallery is delighted to show “Convergence” and will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. every day. The Gallery, the home of the Russell’s raku ceramics, also sells sculpture, prints, photography and paintings by local artists.
