Children’s Movie Screening - Dumbo

Dumbo, a 2019 American fantasy adventure film is a live-action reimagining of Walt Disney’s 1941 film of the same name, which was based on the novel by Helen Aberson and Harold Pearl. Starring Colin Farrell, Michael Keaton, Danny DeVito, Eva Green and Alan Arkin. The story follows a family that works at a failing travelling circus, as they meet a baby elephant with extremely large ears who is capable of flying! Rating PG. Running time 112 minutes. In order to power the city, monsters have to scare children so that they scream. Lovable Sulley and Mike Wazowski are the top scare team at MONSTERS, INC., the scream-processing factory in Monstropolis. When a little girl named Boo wanders into their world, monsters are scared silly, and it's up to Sulley and Mike to get her back home.

CPR Demonstration with The Order of Malta. A Healthy Ireland at Your Library Event

The Order of Malta, through their Adam’s Gift Initiative, will hold a CPR demonstration in Kilkee Public Library on Saturday, 2 November 2019 at 12 midday. The initiative aims to educate and instruct the public in CPR and recognise and manage a cardiac arrest. This is a free event and all are welcome. As part of Healthy Ireland at Your Library, Colette Nagle will hold a Kids Yoga Class for Primary School Children. Cetz Yoga For kids is magical in many ways and has a significant impact on Children's general wellbeing , reducing stress, increasing their capacity to learn, to be gentle to one another and respect nature. Upcycling Project
Sweeney Memorial Library, Kilkee

Artist Krystyna Pomeroy, will host an upcycling project with children from Scoil Réalt na Mara, Kilkee. Beginning on Tuesday 5th November until the 10th December, the children will make some monster dolls and learn sewing and stitching skills. Our sincere thanks to Krystyna for her time and work in this project.

Creative Writing for Adults
Shannon Public Library 10.30am – 12.30pm

Facilitated by Breda Shannon.
A series of Creative Writing workshops will take place over six weeks from 5 November to 10th December. The course will help people get started as a creative writer and stay creative in the long term. It provides an introduction to writing technique, story devices and theme finding. Autism Awareness Workshop with Dr. Susan Crawford of Get Autism Active.
Scariff Public Library 6.30pm to 8pm

Susan Crawford is a researcher and lecturer within the field of Autism Spectrum Disorders particularly related to Sport and Exercise Science and Physical Education. Her passion in this field comes from being the mother of a young man with autism. Together they have completed numerous half marathons and 10km runs all over the world. Susan is a Fulbright Scholar and has presented internationally at conferences and has a number of books published on autism and physical activity. This workshop will cover awareness training on Autism for parents, practitioners, educators and key workers alike. Free event. Booking is required. A Clare County Library Decade of Centenaries Lecture: 'Flying the Flag for Ireland – John Burke and the War of Independence' by Joe Ó Muircheartaigh
Ennistymon Public Library at 6.30pm

John Burke of Moy (1899-1974), was a member of the 4th battalion of the Mid Clare Brigade during the War of Independence and took part in the Rineen Ambush. He became an acclaimed golfer and won the South of Ireland championship 11 times in 19 years and competed and was part of the Walker Cup team in 1932. Joe will examine the events in North Clare during the War of Independence with specific reference to John Burke and his subsequent golfing career.

Dr Don Shirley is a world-class African-American pianist, who is about to embark on a concert tour in the Deep South in 1962. In need of a driver and protection, Shirley recruits Tony Lip, a tough-talking bouncer from an Italian-American neighbourhood in the Bronx. This workshop will engage participants in assessing their reaction and co-ordination performance through a lights stimuli challenge. Participants will look at the factors that influence a person's ability to react such as hereditary factors, vision, movement and age.
Using two of the world famous 'Batak lights Reaction board', explore how the human body reacts to light stimuli throughout a 30 and 60 second concentration challenge. The use of two Batak board units at the event provides multiple opportunities for each participant to break the world record for this activity currently held by Formula 1 racing driver Jenson Button.

Film Book Club – The Book Shop

Our November film is The Bookshop based on the book written by Penelope Fitzgerald. Florence Green, a free-spirited widow, puts grief behind her and risks everything to open up a bookshop, the first such shop in the sleepy seaside town of Hardborough, England. But this mini social revolution soon brings her fierce enemies: she invites the hostility of the town's less prosperous shopkeepers and also crosses Mrs. Gamart, Harborough's vengeful, embittered alpha female who is a wannabe doyenne of the local arts scene.
