In this video, Ruth Marshall shows
how to make home made butter, a domestic activity that was once typical
of many rural homes in Clare. Butter was made by the women of the house
for domestic consumption, and often surplus butter was sold in the local
market to provide an income for the family. |
Clare Museum recently acquired ‘Portrait
of a Woman’ a watercolour by Frederic William Burton, painted in
1849. Burton was born in County Wicklow, but his childhood was spent at
Clifden House, Corofin, an experience which influenced his work. He would
go on to become a significant 19th century portrait painter and Director
of the National Gallery, London. |
Clare County Museum is
a designated building under the National Cultural Institutions Act and has
achieved full accreditation under the Museum
