Eamon de Valera was the
towering political figure in Ireland during the 20th century and was
intimately connected to Clare, having represented
the county from 1917-1959. De Valera’s 1947 Dodge Limousine has
recently gone on long-term exhibition at Clare Museum. Why not come in
for a closer
look? Admission is free. |
Clare Museum recently
acquired ‘Portrait
of a Woman’ a watercolour by Frederic William Burton, painted
in 1849. Burton was born in County Wicklow, but his childhood was spent
at Clifden House, Corofin, an experience which influenced his work.
He
would go on to become a significant 19th century portrait painter and
Director of the National Gallery, London. |

Clare Museum would like
to thank the Friends of the
National Collections of Ireland for funding
the purchase of ‘Portrait
of Annie Callwell' by the distinguished painter Sir Frederic William
Burton (1816-1900)
during 2021. The painting is currently with conservators and will go
on display in due course. |
