The Family of Patrick Sullivan and Margaret Ward, Lisdeen and Australia, 1808-1920, by Sandra Finn

In 1834 Patrick Sullivan from Lisdeen, Kilkee was sentenced to seven years transportation to Australia for manslaughter. On arrival he was assigned to farms in New South Wales. In 1842 he was granted a Certificate of Freedom and married Margaret Ward from the Parish of Clontuskert, Co. Galway the following year. Patrick and Margaret had ten children and farmed in New South Wales. The Sullivan family’s story, given here, is an extract from Sandra Finn’s book – ‘Past Times: Dorothy Rose Crowley née Turner’. Dorothy was a great-granddaughter of Patrick and Margaret Sullivan and the author’s mother.
