Leitrim National School is located in Leitrim Townland, north west of Kilmihil Village. The school opened in 1845 and was the first school to be built in the parish of Kilmihil. A new school was built in 1951 which was later amalgamated with Kilmihil National School. The Lacken school roll books and other school records were donated to Clare County Library by Carmel Coughlan, Principal, Kilmihil National School and are now in Clare County Archives. The registers were transcribed by Brian Doyle and Peter Beirne of the Local Studies Centre.
