Maghera National School was built in 1869 and was situated
in the townland of Maghera, parish of Clooney, Bunratty Upper on the border
with the parish of Tulla. The school was located close to Nestor’s
Bridge. The new Maghera school was built on the same site in 1929. There
were 75 pupils in attendance in 1886, 41 boys and 34 girls. The following
listing of names was compiled by Brian Doyle and Peter Beirne of the Local
Studies Centre, Clare County Library, based on school attendance books
deposited in Clare County Archives. As the names are drawn from attendance
books rather than the school register, the home addresses of the children
are not given.
