Ruan National School Roll Books
Ruan National School is situated in Ruan village in north-east Clare. The old school was opened in 1833 and closed in 1977 when it was replaced by a new building. When Hugh Brady (c. 1844-1918) was still a very young man he was appointed principal teacher at Ruan. He had already achieved fame in the early 1870s as a coach for the Civil Service examinations, becoming well known across the whole of the United Kingdom for his successes in that capacity. The name of Ruan became a scholastic talisman and pupils came from all over Munster to study in Ruan National School. The Roll Books for Ruan National School were transcribed and donated by Linda Hogan and Frances O’Halloran. |
