Species which occur in the wild in Clare include about 55 mammal species, 780 higher plant species and 21 freshwater fish species. The Burren which consists of less than 1% area of land in Ireland hosts 80% of the plant species, where many rare plants are growing in abundance. The Burren also hosts about 80% of the butterfly species found in Ireland.
