Lack school was probably no different from the average 2-teacher, rural national school in the general lack of interest in athletics. However, 4 or 5 pupils were the exception. They included Dermot Honan (1918), his son John (1957), and Johnny Egan, all from Coolsippeen, Brian Mongey (1924) from Lack and John Clohessy (1957) from Ardnagla. Dermot Honan and Johnny Egan were mainly interested in cross-country races.
John Honan and John Clohessy both won Clare and Munster novice, junior, intermediate and senior athletics titles. They also won novice and junior trophies at Rás Na hÉireann. John Honan holds senior trophies at Rás Na hÉireann, trophies in F. C. A. competitions, and has competed in the Dublin City Marathon.
