Ennisman James Patrick Mahon, was the driving force behind Daniel O’Connell’s 1828 victory in the Clare election. A duelist and adventurer, he was later elected to the House of Commons. In this thesis, Declan Barron examines the early life and influences of The O’Gorman Mahon and details his rise to fame. Clare County Library is grateful to Declan Barron for donating this thesis, which was submitted to the University of Limerick as part of an MA in Local Studies (2004).
