‘The Schools’ Folklore Scheme: a valuable primary source for the local historian’ by Maura Egan discusses the contribution of one particular national school (Bansha, Killard) to the Irish Folklore Commission’s (IFC) scheme for the collection of folklore in schools (1937-38). The Scheme represents one of the most ambitious ever undertaken in the field of folklore collecting. The original manuscripts are held by the Department of Irish Folklore, University College, Dublin. Filmed copies of the County Clare schools which participated are held at the Local Studies Centre, Ennis. The Schools Folklore Collection is now available on the national Dúchas website.
