Documents from the Thomond Papers at Petworth House Archive
By Luke McInerney

The Petworth House Archive is an important repository of seventeenth century material relating to Co. Clare, much of it unavailable elsewhere. This article gives a background to Petworth House Archive and examines in detail four previously unpublished petitions contained in the archive. The petitions offer a glimpse into the working administration of the estates of the fourth and fifth earls of Thomond. An index is also provided.

This article first appeared in 2011 issue of ‘Archivium Hibernicum’. Clare County Library is grateful to Luke McInerney and to The Catholic Historical Society of Ireland for permission to reproduce this article.
