Thomas Moland's Survey of County Clare 1703 |
In 1703, Thomas Moland, land surveyor and cartographer, surveyed the lands of the Thomond estate. The Earl of Thomond, then an absentee living in England, ordered the mapping of his estates in Ireland so as to maximise his rental income. Moland produced a beautiful series of maps and in a survey of extraordinary detail provides the first accounts of some of the remotest parts of the county. A book of reference to the survey
of the estate of the Right Honourable Henry Earl of Thomond in
the Kingdom of Ireland
