Clare County Library: The Activate Project
ACTIVATE
was a EU funded research project based in Ireland which began on July
2001 to run for one year. Clare County Library was one of the partners
involved in the project. The others were Cork City Library, An Chomhairle
Leabharlanna, Silverstorm Ltd. and the Digital Media Centre, DIT. The
project aimed to build a thematic network of related internet sites
resulting in the creation of templates which organisations would be
able to use to construct their own site. The theme chosen for ACTIVATE
was local history and Clare County Library chose
Scattery
Island as its subject. Staff from Clare County Library and the
Clare
Local Studies Project (CLASP) collected and prepared content material
on Scattery Island. A virtual tour of the island accompanied the site.
The Activate project was subsequently discontinued.
In late 2004, material from the Activate
project was incorporated in the
Ask
About Ireland website.
