Book Festival Starts in October Clare Champion, Friday, 21st September 2007 Kilrush, Kilkee and Kilmihil public libraries will feature several events to mark Children's Book Festival 2007 next month. The annual festival will run from October 1 to October 26, with over 1,000 events taking place nationwide, to celebrate children's books and encourage reading amongst young people. Last year the Festival involved some 55,000 participants, making it by far the largest cultural event of its kind in Ireland. On Monday, October 1, the Kilrush Library will host a National Print Museum print workshop. The workshop will commence at 10.30am and is aimed at children aged between 8 and 12 years. North Clare-based author, Ré Ó Laighléis, will give a reading at the Library on Monday, October 8, at 11.00am. Children aged 11 to 13 years will be present for this event. Later next month, Malachy Doyle and Eanna Ni Lamhna will visit the Library, while the Dog and String Theatre will perform at Kilrush Library towards the end of October. Kilkee Library will also host the National Print Museum's print workshop on October 1. It will commence at 1.15pm in Kilkee. Author Malachy Doyle will visit Kilkee at 11.30am on Tuesday, October 16. Meanwhile, Kilmihil Library will kick start the annual Book Festival on Thursday, October 23 at 1.45pm when the Magic of India Show visits the village Library. The puppet and storytelling performance is aimed at chldren aged 6 and over. Now in its seventeenth year, the Children's Book Festival has established itself as a major focus for the children’s books community in Ireland, with a particular emphasis on the work of Irish writers and illustrators. |
