Hectic Month Ahead for North Clare Libraries Clare Champion, Friday, 21st September 2007 The libraries of north Clare are set to host a series of exciting events for children this October. Corofin Library kick starts the autumn schedule with a visit from award-winning illustrator, Niamh Sharkey. Niamh was the winner of the prestigious Books for Children Mother Goose Award for best new illustrator. She is also the winner of the 1999 Bisto Award, the Irish award for best illustrator. The event, which is ideal for children from 6 to 10 years old, will take place on Monday, October 1, at 1.30pm. The much loved children's story, The Wishing Tree, will be performed in the library by the Dog and String Theatre on Friday, October 26, at 11.00am. For more information on these events, contact Corofin Library on 065-6837219. Ennistymon Library is the scheduled venue for a print workshop hosted by the National Print Museum. The event, which is aimed at children aged between 8 and 12, will take place on Tuesday, October 2, at 1.15pm. Acclaimed children's author, Malachy Doyle, will be paying a visit to the library on Monday, October 15, at 11.45am. Malachy has won a series of awards for his work and his visit to Corofin should make for a lively event for young children. The following day, conservation ranger, David Lyons, will deliver a talk in the library about bats in Ireland. The event will take place at 1.30pm. Ennistymon Library is set to host a riveting performance by the Dog and String Theatre, when they present the Enid Blyton children's classic The Wishing Tree at noon on Monday, October 22. For more information on the events, contact Ennistymon Library on 065-7071245. Visiting Lisdoonvarna Library on Tuesday, October 16, is Burren-based author, Ré Ó Laighléis. Ó Laighléis, whose novel Gafa is on the Leaving Cert syllabus, is a multi-award-winning writer with six of his plays awarded the All-Ireland Schools Drama title. He is also a three-time winner of the Aodh Ó Ruairc Commemorative Drama Award. Ó Laighléis will be in Lisdoonvarna Library at 1.00pm. Miltown Malbay Library will host a print workshop for children aged 8 to 12 on Tuesday, October 2, at 10.00am, while on Wednesday, October 10, author of the children's book Skulduggery Pleasant, Derek Landy, will visit the library, where he will speak to children about how he created the wise cracking skeleton detective. Derek will be in the library at 10.30am. Author Malachy Doyle will be visiting the library on Monday, October 15, while on Tuesday, October 16, at 11.15am, conservation ranger, David Lyons, will deliver a talk about bats in Clare and Ireland. Dublin author Derek Landy will be visiting the library on Tuesday, October 9, at 11.00am, while on Tuesday, October 16, at 11.45am, author Judi Curtin will drop in to speak about her experience in writing a children's book. Children with an interest in history can look forward to the library hosting The Flight of the Earls - Irish History Live. Aimed at children between 8 and 12, the event will take place on Tuesday, October 30, at 12 noon. Rounding off the month of exciting events, the Dog and String Theatre will present The Wishing Tree production. The performance will take place on Wednesday, October 31, at 2.30pm.
