Clare Local Studies Project
The outstanding co-operation between the library service
and CLASP continues to bring great benefit to the people of Clare.
CLASP
was founded by four members of the library staff as an independent organisation
to link up with FAS, the Training Authority, so as to increase access
to and develop awareness of the rich record of the county’s proud past,
while at the same time providing vital training and education for many
young people. CLASP
publications
and exhibitions to date include Crime & Punishment in Clare;
Poverty in Clare Before the Famine; Lewis’ Topographical Dictionary
of Clare; Two Months at Kilkee by Mary John Knott, originally
published in 1836; The Antiquities of County Clare by
John O’Donovan and Eugene O’Curry; Kilrush Union Minute Books
1849; The Famine in Folklore in Clare; Sable Wings over
the Land: Ennis, County Clare and its wider community during the Great
Famine by Ciaran O Murchadha; A Handbook to Lisdoonvarna
and its vicinity by P. D.; A Portrait of Lisdoonvarna;
Bluett’s Record of Ennis and Local Study Sources
