Poetry Club kicks off at Library Clare Champion, Friday, 27th February, 2009 Scariff Library is hoping to enthuse poetry lovers with the introduction of a new club devoted entirely to reading, discussing and sharing thoughts on poetry. The idea was instigated by senior library assistant, Aileen McDonagh, who has a keen interest in poetry and had been looking for an outlet to share that interest but decided instead to start one up. Already interest has developed among the local community and eight people have signed up to the poetry club. The group is hoping to meet on the first Tuesday of every month from 6:30pm to 7:30pm, with the first meeting taking place on Tuesday, March 10th at 6:30pm. There are currently two places left for those interested in participating but Aileen admits that if the demand is large enough, she will try to accommodate the numbers. “It will be informal and what I hope we could do is pick three poets each month and at the following meeting discuss the poems. This club is for adults who have a vague to great interest in poetry. We could also spend about 15 minutes if people had their own poetry they wanted to discuss,” Aileen explains. It is hoped that the first meeting would just be an introductory meeting and Aileen has selected three random poets just to start discussions on that date. But a lot will depend on how the group wants to proceed and whether people want more or less structure to the meetings, she outlines. Anyone interested in signing up to the poetry club is
