Students Show off their Artworks

Clare Champion, Friday, 20th June 2008

Students from the East Clare Adult Education Centre have been busy over the last two years and to showcase their work a special art exhibition is taking place this week in Scariff Public Library. Local TD Timmy Dooley is to officially open the event on Thursday, June 19th, at 7.00pm at the Scariff Public Library Exhibition Space and the exhibit will run until Tuesday.

The work includes a small selection of the art design and craftwork produced during the student's two-year course at the East Clare Adult Education Centre. Michael Hook, Director at the Centre, explained that the exhibition will feature paintings, drawings, ceramic works and stained glass artwork and will include 20 paintings. The ceramics and stained glass works will be displayed in cabinets at the library. Michael said he is very proud of the standard of artwork that has come out of the Education Centre this year and in past years. He added that a number of students have gone on to the Limerick School of Art and Design to further their education in art and some have gone on to make careers out of it.

"Over the years, we have got very good tutors and 15 of our students have gone on to the College of Art and Design. A number of the students here would not have had the opportunity to properly study art before and the quality of the art produced is exceptionally high", Mr. Hood said.

The exhibition will run at the Scariff Public Library and will finish on Tuesday, 24th June 2008. All are invited to see the work created by these talented students.
