Sharing Ground Participatory Art Project
Scariff Public Library at 11.00am to 5.00 pm

Sharing Ground is a participatory art project that has been developed as a response to the divisions that arose in the rural community of East Clare during the pandemic lockdowns. It seeks to address the question of how we can find ways to meet each other with understanding, even when we hold divergent views. It revolves around a story exchange and an art making session that will take place over a one day workshop in Scariff Library.
Story Exchange is a process of sharing short stories from participants lives, and includes participation through active listening. Its purpose is not to invite confrontation or the stoking of divisive ideas but to create a space where we can see and acknowledge each other’s differences and, on a human level by sharing stories, build understanding through empathy. It is a process that requires engagement, and brings connection. The project is being organised and ran by East Clare artist Nathalie El Baba, who has trained under Narrative 4 as a Story Exchange facilitator, and is funded by the Arts Council. It will be visually documented by West Clare based photographic artist, Myriam Riand. A publication about the exchange will be produced as part of the project. This workshop is for any adults who are interested in engaging with a process of creativity, empathy building and connection.
There will be an information session on Thursday 14th July at Scariff Library from 6-7 pm, with a modelling of a story exchange and a Q & A.
The Story Exchange is kindly being hosted by Scariff Library on Saturday 23rd of July, from 11am until 5pm. If you are interested and would like to take part, or would like more information please contact Nathalie on: 087 6159466, or nathalieelbaba@gmail.com or Scariff Library on 061 922893 or scarriff_library@clarecoco.ie. Please note: This event is free but places will need to be reserved before the day as there is preparation needed by both participants and organisers in advance. Lunch and refreshments provided.
