County Clare, A History and Topography Clare Champion Clasp On Line Another arm to the success story that is the Clare Local Studies Project (CLASP) came on stream this week, or more appropriately came on line this week, with the internet publication of Samuel Lewis’ "A topographical Dictionary of Ireland. The publication can be viewed on the County Library website, www.clarelibrary.ie, by clicking on online publications. This is just one of a number of publications appearing on the library website. In 1837, Samuel Lewis issued his A Topographical Dictionary of Ireland. This valuable work was published in two volumes running to over 1400. Copies of the paperback edition are still available in most bookshops or from Clare Local Studies Project, Library Headquarters, Mill Road, Ennis. A few years ago, the late Pat Flynn said Lewis’ Topographical Dictionary itself "permits the present-day reader a degree of facility of access to those times immediately before the Famine". Now this facility can be accessed through the internet. |
