Training Provided Within CLASP

CLASP's FÁS Community Response Project, which ran from May 1995 to January 2006, offered a wide range of training and experience to trainees.
Practical training included:

  • Computer Basics and Applications
  • Historical Research
  • Preparation of text for publications
  • Field Trips
  • Interview techniques and CV preparation
  • Publicity and promotion
  • Mail shots and general sales and marketing of publications
  • Work Experience
  • Training in Microsoft Applications
  • Training in Adobe Photoshop
  • Training in Quark XPress
  • Training in Microsoft Publisher '97
  • Hardware & Software Familiarisation
  • Trainees are responsible for the production of their own newsletter, “CLASP NEWS”, which is produced with the launch of each publication.

The FÁS certification system, the Integrated Assessment System, which is endorsed by City & Guilds, offers a wide range of benefits to trainees, trainers and to employers. CLASP was very successful in implementing this system which is based on modules.

Trainee Benefits (on completion of Integrated Assessment System):

  • Enables trainees to gain recognition for a wider range of skills i.e. attainment in personal skills as well as practical skills is recorded and certified.
  • Prepares trainees to meet the demands of work through training and assessment exercises, which closely match work requirements.
  • It reduces concerns about formal testing by making assessment more open, informal and ongoing - an integral part of the training experience.

Employer Benefits:

  • It recognises the needs of employers for employees trained in both personal and practical skills.
  • It results in a short, easily interpreted certificate listing achievements in practical and personal skills.

City & Guilds
City & Guilds certification is offered in the following areas:

  • Word Processing (Elementary and Intermediate Level)
  • Databases
  • Spreadsheets

European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL)
The European Computer Driving Licence is certificated by ECDL Ireland Ltd. and has seven modules to offer training in, including:

  • Basic Concepts of IT
  • Using the Computer and Managing Files
  • Word Processing
  • Spreadsheets
  • Databases
  • Presentations & Drawings
  • Information Network Services

Advanced European Computer Driving Licence
We offered two modules in the Advanced European Computer Driving Licence including:

  • Word Processing
  • Spreadsheets
