John Trolan - Any Other Time
Brandon

Trolan’s second novel, Any Other Time, is wonderfully written, and confirms Trolan’s talent. It concerns the drug culture of the eighties, and is set around Ballymun. It was a tough read, yet I felt compelled to carry on. And such is the power of Trolan’s writing, and so skilful his descriptions and characterisation, that before long I was mesmerised by the seedy world I had landed in.
Trolan writes from the inside, and it shows. The book isn’t all stark. It is lifted by wonderful descriptions; by humour, sex and the lightness of relationships. The conclusion of this excellent novel is simply heartrending.
