Mogue Doyle - Dancing with Minnie the Twig
Black Swan

Doyle’s tale centres on Tony, a perceptive if troublesome boy, and it shows his changing relationship with his family, as well as painting a vivid picture of the villagers. The novel contains wonderful natural language, and it positively drips with imagery, I became so caught up in the flow of the writing, that it was hard to stop and think just what it was that made the novel so good. Doyle’s descriptive language is wonderful.
I loved Mogue’s sense of period. Of the freedom of staring up a chimney at the stars; of the release Tony feels when music blares out of the radio, so foretelling the freedom to come in sixties Ireland. The novel is wonderfully structured too. Doyle has bucket loads of talent. I simply adored this evocative book.
