Kerry Hardie - Hannie
Bennet’s Winter Marriage It is hard to believe that Hannie Bennet’s
Winter Marriage is poet Kerry Hardie’s first novel. The language
flows effortlessly throughout, and her descriptions are achingly beautiful.
The novel offers a social commentary on the demise of the Anglo-Irish
community. Hardie’s Ireland is not a place that I recognise, but
by the conclusion of this exquisitely written novel I was hooked. With
so many ‘light’ women novelists around, Hardie makes a refreshing
change. She is a welcome new voice in Irish literature. Back to A selection of the Best in Contemporary Irish Fiction |
