Evelyn Conlon - Telling
The Blackstaff Press

Evelyn Conlon is a skilled literary writer. ‘Telling’ is an excellent collection comprising nine new and ten old stories. I love her spare style, her humour and her ease and economy with language.
With most of the stories set in and around Dublin, Conlon addresses big issues in society. She writes frequently and with condemnation about the church, and its oppression of women. Sexual relationships, particularly unsatisfactory ones, are delicately handled, and she writes well about groups of friends, and their attempts to hang on to their collective past. But her talent lies in her ability to sum up a character, an emotion, or an insight in a line. In all an enjoyable, well crafted collection.
