This book opens with Robert Langdon, Symbolist, accepting a last minute invitation to deliver a lecture in Washington, DC. He is summoned on behalf of his lifelong friend Peter Solomon, head of the Smithsonian Institute and also a Mason. Peter has just been kidnapped by the sinister Mal’akh. Unwittingly, Langdon is called in under pretence and when Peter’s severed hand appears on the floor of Capital Rotunda with 5 symbols encoded on his fingers – it is acknowledged that an invitation to solve a mystery has been delivered. A race against time follows with fast paced action which provides a page turning and suspenseful read.
