Stick Man by Julia Donaldson
Published by Scholastic, 2008

The talented duo of The Gruffalo fame, Julia Donaldson and illustrator Axel Scheffler has produced another treasure! Donaldson tells the story of Stick Man who “lives in the family tree, with his stick Lady Love and their stick children three.”

But the great outdoors is full of danger; a dog chooses Stick Man as just the ideal stick for playing fetch, a swan selects him as the best twig for her nest and when he’s finished being a snowman’s arm, and things can’t possibly get any worse, he faces the greatest danger of all…

The winter snow scene depicted on the cover makes it an especially appealing Christmas read. That, plus an unusual entrance through the chimney by every child’s hero in red will have them waiting with bated breath to hear and see what’s on the next page.

This is a beautiful book to share with small children especially at this time of year. The story has a lovely Christmas twist to it that they will love, and leaves them in no doubt about how their presents end up under the tree on Christmas morning.

For a great story, lots of laughs and the very best illustrations you won’t beat Stick Man.
