Elmer and Papa Red by David McKee

Elmer takes all the little elephants to fetch home the Christmas tree. On the way they interview him about Papa Red whom they’ve never seen.

As the jungle becomes pine trees and the youngsters see snow for the first time Papa Red is gradually forgotten as they tumble about using their trunks for snowballing.

After they’ve carried home the perfect tree, decorated it and placed the presents all around the elephants are tired. But Elmer promises them a special surprise if they can stay awake and well hidden.
