Ba
Amach an chéad leabhar Gaeilge a bhuaigh duais de
chuid Bisto, duais Eilís Dillon do leabhar páistí
i 2004.
Úrscéal gearr a gcuireann léiriúcháin
de chuid Aidan Harte go mór leis, seo scéal faoi dhéagóir
Éireannach tipiciúil sa chéad aois is fiche.
Ta an laoch cosúil le gach déagóir,
gaifeach, tallanach, taghdach, agus ag déanamh iarracht bheith
ina “fhearr crua”. Tá sé cneasta agus
tuisceannach freisin, mar is léir don léitheoir ón
gcaoi chneasta a gcaitheann sé leis an mbean déirce
agus a páiste.
Ta éacht déanta ag Titley sa chumasc
de scéal atá dírithe ar dhéagóirí
le gluais nach bhfuil ró-dhúshlánach fiú
dóibh siúd nach bhfuil líofa sa Ghaeilge.
Amach was the first book in the Irish language to win the Bisto
Eilis Dillon award for a children’s novel in 2004.
A short
novel, greatly enhanced by the illustrations of Aidan Harte, the
story is about a typical Irish teenager of the twenty-first century.
The hero is like all teenagers; loud, impulsive,
moody and constantly trying to be the “hard man”. He
is also kind and considerate as the reader will see from his kind
gestures to the begging woman and her child.
Titley has managed to successfully merge a story
geared towards a teenage readership with a vocabulary that is not
too challenging even for those who are not fluent in the Irish language.
This
book along with 11 others makes up Clare County Library’s
Seachtain na Gaeilge book promotion for children and adults entitled
Blúirín Gaeilge. The promotion features books
in the Irish language for children as young as 3 or 4, up to teenagers
as well as a selection of Irish classics for adults.
Blúirín
Gaeilge will be launched by author Ré Ó Laighléis
in deValera Public Library, Ennis on the 9th of March
2005.
