The Day the Crayons Quit by Drew Daywalt
Published by HarperCollins Children’s Books, 2013

When Duncan opens his pencil case he is surprised to find notes from all his crayons saying quite simply, they quit! He just wants to colour in, but he has no idea how unhappy his crayons are. Beige is always ignored in favour of Brown, Blue is exhausted from colouring in water all the time and poor Pink just wants to be used. Orange and Yellow have fallen out. Only Green has no complaints.

How can Duncan sort all this out?

Amazingly imaginative writing is paired equally imaginative illustration by Oliver Jeffers. The messy childlike drawings ideally accompany the hilarious text to turn Duncan’s crayons into memorable personalities.
