Teenage Book of the Month
Chopsticks by Jessica Anthony Glory finds solace in her music after her mother dies.
Having been raised to be a piano prodigy by her purposeful father she
turns to her music to help her through her loss. Falling in love for the
first time with Frank, she goes from playing sold-out shows world wide,
to disappearing and to being unable to play anything but the song "Chopsticks"
as she comes to inhabit a strange and disturbing space. The story is presented through a series of photos, letters, ticket stubs, paintings and sketches, newspaper clippings and postcards. It is open to the reader’s interpretation for him/her to decide what is real or imagined. Chopsticks is both a love story and a mystery uniquely put together in a scrapbook type format with photographs unlocking secrets and telling the story as powerfully or even more so than text ever could. "Spellbinding and inventive, this title will attract
teens and compel them to reread and revisit each clue to the hauntingly
ambiguous ending." |
