The It Girl by Katie Birchall
Published by Egmont, 2015

If you’re already a fan of Holly Smale’s Geek Girl or Louise Rennison’s hilarious collection, even better. The It Girl has been described as hilariously funny and deliciously romantic 'clean teen' fiction for teens.

Anna Huntley is the main character in Birchall’s debut novel.

Her aims in life include:
• Staying cool enough to hang on to her two lovely new (and only) school friends.
• Not setting the school's Deputy Queen Bee mean girl's hair on fire (again) and
• Going to Africa to give out rice!

Anna is a delight to read about. Every teenage girl will identify with her,her tendency to say stupid things at the wrong times and to generally embarrass herself.

The story is fittingly broken up to include emails, notes and lists, making it an even more leisurely read.

Relationships are realistically portrayed between Anna and her father, her dog, her new step-sister and her two friends.

The main messages the book has to offer are:
• Be yourself
• Value your friendships and
• There are more important things than fame and self attention.

Teenage girls looking for a light summer read will love this.
