Minding
Children by William Wall
Published by Sceptre, 2001
Josephine
Strane is an Irish teenager who works as a childminder. On the outside
a calm, normal girl, she is in fact a very disturbed individual
damaged by her own childhood. The reader is torn between feeling
pity for the young woman and horror at the way in which she terrorizes
the young children in her care and wrecks havoc on the families
who employ her. The scary thing is how plausible her stories and
explanations seem and how she can manipulate parents in believing
her and ignoring the signs that all is not well.
Josephine
Strane is every parent’s worst nightmare - a frightening possibility.
A disturbing read that holds your attention the whole way through.
