A photography competition Get Caught Reading was held to mark World Book Day 2006 in association with schools in County Clare. The competition which was run again after a lapse of three years attracted entries from many of the National Schools throughout the County.

Entrants were asked to submit a photograph of themselves or somebody else in the most imaginative and inspiring location that they would like to “get caught reading.”

1st Prize of a digital camera goes to St. Colman’s National School, New Quay as well as a personal book token for Roisin Tyrell, the winning photographer, aged nine.

Her winning photo was entitled "My Scene Goes Read!"
Judges, John Kelly and Yvonne Vaughan awarded first prize for this photograph for the thought that went into the setting and for the clever interpretation of the theme.

Tracey McDonagh, from Scoil Chriost Rí, Ennis won second prize for her picture, "They’ll Never Find Me In Here". The Judges felt that the picture presented a real reading scene and that the child actually used that space for reading.

Max Downes from Killaloe Boys National School gets third prize for his entry entitled “Bail Boy” Judges' comments about this entry are “This is a good clean shot. The small subject emphasises the size of the bales in the picture. Positioning the boy to read on top was a good idea”

Both Tracey and Max will receive book token prizes, compliments of Clare County Library.
