County Clare 2020: A Day in My Life
by Alexandru Dempsey-Kolozsvari

I am finally living a day in my perfect life. I have autism and nothing about my day is ever normal…until now!!

I get up every day and chill….I don’t get dressed, I just wear different onesies that are fluffy and warm.

I don’t like wasps, bees or flies so I’m really happy that I don’t have to go outside. My brother always fights with my mum because he wants to go out and play with his friends, I don’t really have any friends so I don’t really miss anybody. I don’t play outside much so staying indoors is perfect for me.

I can wear my ear defenders at home when everyone in my family eats food but in school I’m too embarrassed to wear them and it really bothers me listening to everyone around me talking with food in their mouth, it bothers me when I have to sit at my desk and smell their lunches, and the worst part is when the other kids take a big bite of their food and struggle to breath and eat at the same time, it gives me the shivers and I am so happy I don’t have to listen to them anymore.

I spend most of my days watching funny you tube channels and playing games on my tablet. I snuggle up on the couch in my onesie and blanket or I sit upstairs in my room when my mum is cooking dinner because I hate the smell of food cooking. I do my laps in my house which my mums says helps regulate me but I don’t know what that means, I just love doing my laps where I run from my kitchen to my hall for about 10 minutes a few times every day and my mum says this is also great exercise for me. Sometimes I run from the kitchen to the sitting room but my brother shouts at me to stop.

I love staying at home every day, I am afraid of Covid-19 so I don’t want to go outside, I have asthma and so does my sister. I have to do some homework but it’s really easy and really boring. My mum wanted me to do a lot of colouring stuff but I hate colouring so I didn’t do any of it. I like playing Monopoly with my family but we don’t play it every day.

My beaver scout leader sends my mum a list of things I have to do which is fun sometimes. I have to build a fort indoors and help my mum in the house.
I love living in quarantine because I don’t have to go to school and I don’t have to go outside, my mum doesn’t have to go to work and stays at home all the time now, my brother and sister stay at home all the time too and sometimes my sister lets me in her room to listen to music and watch you tube with her.

I am very happy with my life in quarantine.
