County Clare 2020: A Day in My Life
by Aoife Tuohy
When I woke this morning, I thought I had to go to school, but I quickly realised coronavirus, lockdown and google school, this is now my new normal life.
After breakfast I logged onto google school, I said good morning to my teacher Miss Ryan and my friends. Even though we are apart we are still virtually together and do our work as a class. Later I have lunch, then I go for a walk with my Mom.
Today we met Mr John Ryan who has a farm and he invited us in to see the cows. They were very noisy but beautiful and clean. I saw a mother cow with her twin calves, they were so cute. The mam was moving about, and the calves were following her. John also showed us an Aberdeen Angus bull, he was enormous and beautiful. The bull stared right at me it was a little bit scary. Then we continued on our walk, we saw sheep and lambs out grazing.
We returned home and I went outside to jump on my trampoline and kicked a football for a while. I also played a little bit of basketball. Later on dad came home from work and after dinner we played hurling, wow I was tired after that. Dad is very good at hurling. Then we went to check on our vegetables growing in the garden, we have onions, carrots, cabbage and lettuce. They are growing quickly, soon we will be eating them.
In the evening I face timed my grandparents who are cocooning, it was great to see them and chat, but not the same as seeing them in real life. I miss the hugs, kisses and treats that they give me. It must be lonely for them not seeing family and friends. I can’t wait for the day that we can all be together again.
Before I go to bed, I watch television for a while with Mam and Dad and I read my book before I go to sleep. My new book is called Slime by David Walliams.
I can’t wait for the old normal when I can meet my friends, family and play my sports.
