Childrens Summer Reading Mission 2006
Presentation
of Certificates of achievement to children who participated in this
year’s Summer Reading Mission took place in deValera Library
on Thursday evening the 28th September 2006.
A total of three hundred and ten children completed the scheme which
ran over the Summer months of July and August. Each child read at
least ten books from a list of twenty authors recommended by Clare
County Library.
County Librarian, Noel Crowley presented children from all library
branches with their certificates and twenty lucky young readers
received spot prizes on the night.
This year for
the first time, the library joined forces with The Reading Agency
in the UK to advertise and promote the scheme. Children were given
secret agent pens, stickers, bookmarks and other incentives during
July and August to help them accomplish their Reading Mission.
The recommended
authors for this year’s Challenge included, Terry Deary, Anne
Fine, Darren Shan, Paul Stewart, Lemony Snicket and Kate Thompson.
