Childrens Summer Reading Challenge 2005
Presentation
of Certificates of achievement to children who participated in
this year’s Summer Reading Challenge
took place in deValera Library on Thursday evening the 6th October
2005.
A
total of two hundred and fifty-eight children completed the scheme
which ran over the Summer months of July and August. Each child
read ten books from a list of twenty authors recommended by Clare
County Library.
Clare Senior Hurler, Diarmuid McMahon presented children from
all library branches in the County with their certificates.
The recommended authors for this year’s Reading Challenge
included, Allan Ahlberg, Gillian Cross, Martin Waddell, Geraldine
McCaughrean, Siobhan Parkinson and Hilary McKay.
Spot prizes were won by twenty lucky readers in the library
which was full to capacity for the event.
Clare County Library would like to extend its sincere thanks
to guest of honour for the evening, Diarmuid McMahon, who
not only
presented certificates but signed autographs and posed for
photographs with many young hurling enthusiasts from everywhere
in the County.
Clare Champion and Clare People photographers were also there
to capture the excitement of Clare County Library’s young readers
on camera.
