Children’s Summer Reading Scheme 2007

Children’s Summer Reading Scheme 2007 - The Big Wild Read
The Big Wild Read

Turn off the TV and pick up a good book was the message delivered by Clare County Library to thousands of children in the County during the Summer of 2007. For the sixth year in succession, Clare County Library, in conjunction with The Reading Agency in England, provided children with specially designed promotional packs and encouraged them to visit their local library to avail of the wide selection of books available to them.

All children who signed up to take part in The Big Wild Read were given bright and colourful folders to record their summer reading, which they decorated with specially designed stickers. There were other incentives too, fridge magnets, bookmarks and even a free pack of wild flower seeds. Special post-it notes were available, on which participants recommended their favourite books to fellow young readers, and were displayed on a reading tree poster in each library.

Over three hundred children who read six books or more during the Summer were presented with certificates of merit by RTÉ’s Éanna Ní Lamhna on October 22nd, 2007.
