Summer Reading Challenge
2012 – Story Lab
Clare County Library’s Summer
Reading Challenge 2012 began on the 2nd of July 2012.
The free and fun initiative is a
flagship library success story which focuses on reading for pleasure.
More children than ever before took part this Summer with 800
participants receiving Story Lab certificates in recent weeks.
At each of the five venues, Kilrush,
Shannon, Ennis, Scariff and Ennistymon libraries where celebratory
events were held to mark the end of this year’s initiative,
entertainment was provided courtesy of storyteller Niall de Burca
and The Kids Party Club Puppet Shows.
Children who completed the Challenge
had read six or more books of their choice during July and August.
Working on a “Story Lab”
theme participants had access to a designated website enabling
them to read along with children in the UK and Ireland and to
share, create, transmit and broadcast stories worldwide.
Divided into three stages Story
Lab challenge incentives were awarded to all who joined as they
progressed through their target reads. Bookmarks, fridge magnets,
log cards and special stickers all helped to encourage young readers
in Clare to set out and achieve their reading goals.
The Summer Reading Challenge is
just one of many exciting schemes public libraries offer to help
children develop a love of reading.
