Summer Reading Challenge 2014 – Mythical
Maze
The Summer Reading Challenge is
the biggest annual reading promotion for four to eleven-year olds;
it’s free, it’s fun and it’s run by your local
library!
Last year, almost 1,000 children
in County Clare participated in the Summer Reading Challenge.
The initiative is an excellent way for libraries and schools to
work together to prevent the 'summer reading dip' that can occur
when schools close for summer holidays.
Children simply need to visit their
local library, sign up for this year’s Challenge, Mythical
Maze, and library staff will help from there. As participants
read up to a total of 6 books or more if they wish, they will
collect stickers, bookmarks, wristbands and other incentives along
the way.
There will be a celebration ceremony
for all children who complete the Challenge in one of Clare’s
five main regional libraries in the Autumn featuring children’s
entertainment and some excellent spot prizes, with the emphasis
on reading for pleasure providing the backdrop to all activities.
The Summer Reading Challenge is
free and fun. It is designed to have maximum child appeal and
is highly motivating. It is not a competition but a personal challenge
within a particular time frame which offers reading inspiration
and incentives to encourage children into libraries. Clare County
Library invites all young readers to become involved. You will
